AUSTRALIAN seal dies in WA seal hunt

Posted October 06, 2018 09:11:03 AUSTRIA’S state seal has died, just days after it was put to sea to hunt in the north.

The seal was spotted off the coast of Western Australia, with the seal handler’s son saying the animal was about 20 metres long and had “really big teeth”.

The seal handler, who asked not to be named, said the animal came ashore about two weeks ago and was being chased by the WA seal handler who was chasing a seal.

“We were chasing it when it was spotted and we saw the seal’s legs coming towards us,” the sealer said.

“The handler had a big hammer and a net.

He was trying to get him off but it wasn’t happening.

He got the seal, but it went over the edge.”

I’ve got a mate and two young kids on the boat and it’s just sad.

“Mr Davenport said the seal was about 10 metres long.”

It was about 40 to 50 metres from the shoreline and was a bit of a hazard,” he said.

The WA seal hunter, who was in the water when the animal died, said he was devastated.”

You never know what you’ll get in these situations,” he told the ABC.”

If it’s something that you know is coming, you don’t want to be there to see it.

“He was chasing it for the last 20 metres and I was really worried.

I’ve been on the road for about five years and I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Its been a real pain and a real worry.

“The WA state seal hunt is expected to resume in the new year.
